چکیده

We study the sliding state of a two-dimensional Wigner crystal in a strong magnetic field and a random impurity potential. Using a high-velocity perturbation theory, we compute the nonlinear conductivity, various correlation functions, and the interference effects arising in combined AC + DC electric effects, including the Shapiro anomaly and the linear response to an AC field. Disorder is found to induce mainly transverse distortions in the sliding state of the lattice. The Hall resistivity retains its classical value. We find that, within the large velocity perturbation theory, free carriers which affect the longitudinal phonon modes of the Wigner crystal do not change the form of the nonlinear conductivity. We compare the present sliding Wigner crystal in a strong magnetic field to the conventional sliding charge-density wave systems. Our result for the nonlinear conductivity agrees well with the I − V characteristics measured in some experiments at low temperatures or large depinning fields, for the insulating phases near filling factor ν = 1/5. We summarize the available experimental data, and point out the differences

Wigner-crystal states for the two-dimensional electron gas in a double-quantum-well system.

Using the Hartree-Fock approximation, we calculate the energy of different Wigner crystal states for the two-dimensional electron gas of a double quantum well system in a strong magnetic field. Our calculation takes interlayer hopping as well as an in-plane magnetic field into consideration. The ground state at small layer separations is a one-component triangular lattice Wigner state. As the l...

Persistent Current of a One-Dimensional Wigner Crystal-Ring

We calculate the magnetic moment (‘persistent current’) in a strongly correlated electron system — a Wigner crystal — in a one-dimensional ballistic ring. The fluxand temperature dependence of the persistent current is shown to be essentially the same as for a system of non-interacting electrons. In contrast, by incorporating into the ring geometry a tunnel barrier, that pins the Wigner crystal...

Re-entrant pinning of Wigner molecules in a magnetic field due to a Coulomb impurity

– Pinning of magnetic-field induced Wigner molecules (WMs) confined in parabolic two-dimensional quantum dots by a charged defect is studied by an exact diagonalization approach. We found a re-entrant pinning of the WMs as function of the magnetic field, a magnetic field induced re-orientation of theWMs and a qualitatively different pinning behaviour in the presence of a positive and negative C...

سمت‌گیری مولکول‌های بلور مایع نماتیک در وضعیت دو بعدی و اثر چنگ زدگی‌های متناهی و نامتناهی

In this paper, the director distribution is calculated for a nematic liquid crystal, in the cell with different surface anchoring conditions and external fields. The effects of finite and infinite surface anchoring on molecular orientations for one dimensional geometry are discussed. In these situations, the planar alignment is considered. Then, in a two dimensional geometry the planar and homo...

Tunneling from a correlated two-dimensional electron system transverse to a magnetic field

We show that in a magnetic field parallel to a two-dimensional ~2D! electron layer, strong electron correlations can change the rate of tunneling from the layer to the 3D continuum exponentially. It leads to a specific density dependence of the escape rate. The mechanism is a dynamical Mössbauer-type recoil, in which the Hall momentum of the tunneling electron is partly transferred to the whole...
